Borton was commissioned to restore the historic First Church of La Crosse, built in the late 1800s, which now serves as the home for Cappella Performing Arts in La Crosse, Wisconsin. While the majority of our work focused on the former Sunday School addition, now known as the “Stella Ballroom,” we also carried out a significant renovation in the original chapel, now called the Cappella Ballroom. Notable renovations included repairing a large section of the chapel floor damaged by fire, recreating a mezzanine in the Stella Ballroom, adding three new ridgetop skylights that allow views from the main floor of the ballroom, installing new mechanical systems throughout the property, and restoring the original hardwood floors and uncovering the existing brick walls.
