Garden Terrace
Location: La Crosse, WI
June 2019
This facility incorporates one-, two- and three-bedroom units to address the La Crosse's affordable housing shortage, including 15 set aside as transitional housing for homeless veterans. The project also includes a community hub for the Hunger Task Force’s Kane Street Community Gardens that provides running water, restrooms and a kitchen where the nonprofit organization plans to expand its programming to include cooking and nutrition classes. This is a 50-unit, mixed income rental property with multi-purpose community center, on-site supportive services and a greenhouse. Design includes walk-up units built to Wisconsin Green Built Homes standards for energy efficiency and sustainability. Building is built "out of the flood plain" and the building design requires a large storm water retention area.
